This year, I will be turning 18, and I made a sort of list of things I wanted to do before I officially became an adult. I've held back on a lot of experiences people my age have because I'm quite stubborn and if there's any way I can openly avoid conforming, I will. So, I've never been drunk, been to a house party and I've only recently started wearing make-up. But sometimes the opportunity for some experiences has just never arose. For example, I've never been to a gig. UNTIL NOW!
I have, in some way, been live-musically deflowered. And it feels amazing. I went to see Little Comets, a band that I've loved for a while now, in Cardiff with my pal Mabel. There were two support bands, The Crookes, who were really good, but their recorded music sounds nowhere as good as live. The other band I can't remember, um, which makes me feel bad.
Moving on... We secured our place in front of the stage. Little Comets were within touching distance - so tempting. I hadn't got the hang of bopping to music. Like, what do you do with your arms? But, I did my best. Beer was spilt on my legs. We were knocked about by some drunkards dancing awfully beside us. But none of that mattered because the music was incredible. Everyone went wild when they played Dancing Song and One Night In October.
Oh the excitement
Myself and Mabel. I will only take this down if she tells me, so lets hope she doesn't read this!
The Crookes were supporting
ROB'S SMILING RIGHT AT ME.
To top it all off, WE MET THEM. I couldn't contain myself. They decided to not do encores, but me and Mabel hung around the stage just in case. The drummer came out, and we word vomited on him. Then when we realized they really weren't going to come back out, we headed for the exit. Only to find Rob and Matt chatting to the fans. WHUT! I was my usual sappy self and could only manage a feeble, "can I have a picture with you", but Mabel was a cucumber, thanking them for writing Violence Out Tonight, which is about rape, and it's just nice that they are successful men writing songs about women's issues. I possibly told them I loved them in all the excitement.
ROB and me. AHHH!
MATT and me. AHHH!! (ignore post dancing sweaty face.)
And I also got my arms signed. YAY.
My work colleagues didn't approve. WELL SCREW YOU. I shall never wash these arms.
And so, to conclude, I think it's safe to say I had an amazing night, and I will never forget my first gig. Thanks Mabel, my guide. I've handily linked all the songs I've mentioned so that you can hear their awesomeness. Oh, and I've included my favourite song, Adultery, because the lyrics mention knickers. LOL.
One more thing, all the amazing typography you see everywhere on their merchandise and in the videos, IT'S ROB'S. BECAUSE BOTH HIS PARENTS WERE TEACHERS. AND HE TOLD US THAT. IN PERSON.
